Poulton Road remains closed in both directions
A fire has ripped through a derelict house in Fleetwood closing a major road for several hours.
Four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform rushed to the scene on Poulton Road at around 3am on Monday (October 3). They arrived to find a derelict house in flames.
Crews used two hose reel jets, one hose reel and the aerial ladder platform to extinguish the fire. Poulton Road is closed in both directions between Mersey Road and Ribble Road.
The response to the incident has now been reduced to one pump and the aerial ladder platform. Firefighters remain on scene damping down and monitoring hotspots.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “four fire engines from Blackpool, Fleetwood and Bispham along with the aerial ladder platform from Blackpool attended a derelict property fire on Poulton Road, Fleetwood. Firefighters used two hose reel jets, one hose reel and the aerial ladder platform to extinguish the fire. Crews remain in attendance.”
In an update, they added: “This incident has been reduced to one pump and the aerial ladder platform. Crews will remain in attendance damping down and monitoring any hotspots.”
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “Good morning all, Please be advised due to a derelict building fire, Poulton Road in Fleetwood is currently closed in both directions between the junctions of Mersey Road and Ribble Road.
“Please find an alternative route where possible. This closure is likely to be in place until this afternoon whilst Lancs Fire and Rescue continue to make the area safe.”
