Man charged after cyclist seriously injured in Fleetwood collision
Police were called to reports a cyclist and a car had collided at the junction of Heathfield Road and Lindel Road, close to the One Stop shop, on Sunday (August 2).
It was reported a man in his 20s had been riding his bike on the pavement when a Peugeot 206 car collided with him at around 1.35pm.
The cyclist suffered serious injuries to his arm and leg and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment.
Gareth Baker, 24, of Harbour Way, Fleetwood, has now been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Preston nightclub issues statement after ‘fake’ footage emerges of partygoers gathering on dancefloor
Switch, a popular nightclub in Preston, controversially reopened its doors on Saturday (August 1) on the basis that it was repurposed into a bar.
This meant the venue could reopen on the basis that it did not provide dance space for customers and followed strict health and safety measures.
But following its reopening night the club was criticised for its lack of social distancing measures after footage emerged of revellers congregating on the dance floor.
The club has now released a statement defending its opening night, adding the videos circulating online are “fake”.
Child stung by venomous ‘weever fish’ on St Annes beach
Lytham Coastguard were called to reports a young child had been stung in the sea off St Annes beach at around 7.05pm yesterday (August 3).
When crews arrived they found the child was in pain due to a wound on their foot – believed to have been caused by the casualty accidentally stepping on a weever fish.

Lancashire Police officer who ‘attacked’ Accrington car thief during arrest charged with assault
Footage of Adeel Ashraf’s arrest – which showed him being restrained by a number of officers at the scene in Lonsdale Street on January 8 – was shared on social media.
The IOPC decided to independently investigate the actions of the officers involved after the watchdog received a voluntary referral from Lancashire Police.
It has now been confirmed PC Saul Hignett, 26, has been charged with Section 39 assault following the investigation.
PETA offers £1,000 reward after seagull shot with arrow in cruel crossbow attack in Blackpool
Animal rights group PETA said it is offering £1,000 for “information leading to the arrest and conviction” of the person who shot a seagull with an arrow.
The bird, seen in Devonshire Road, Blackpool, may even have been attacked by a future killer, the group said.
It said “past incidents involving cruelty to animals regularly appear in the records of society’s most violent criminals”.
Two people spotted in water off Cleveleys beach sparks rescue operation
HM Coastguard units from Lytham and Fleetwood launched a rescue operation following reports two people were in the water shortly after 1.30am today (August 3).
