‘Thank god we were out’- Blackpool house partially collapses due to Storm Dave

A house in Blackpool has partly collapsed due to Storm Dave.

An amber ‘danger to life’ wind warning was in place across Blackpool from 7pm yesterday through to 3am this morning as Storm Dave hit the UK shores.

Although the storm had started to clear by Easter Sunday morning, people across the town and wider afield will have woken up to see the full effects of the storm overnight.

There were particularly drastic scenes on Westbourne Avenue in Blackpool, where one home appears to have partially collapsed.

In photos obtained by our photographer Dave Nelson today, the gable end of the property looks to have collapsed into the side alleyway.

A previous tenant took to Facebook to also share photos of the collapse.

In the caption they wrote: “Well thank god we were out. Only gave keys back 7 days ago!

“The gable end was brought down early hours this morning.

“I feel so thankful this morning, but physically sick”.

A spokesperson for Chorley Fire Station, where the Urban Search and Rescue Team for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is based confirmed that they did not attend the property.

They said: “We’re the Urban Search and Rescue Team so if a building collapsed, we’d attend but the main pumps would have been South Shore and Blackpool. We check if there’s potential casualties, secure the building and do any structural suverys. USR did not attend Westbourne Avenue, there was one previous, a wall collapse, in Blackpool… Adrian Street, Bolton Street.”

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Lancashire Police have been contacted for further comment.

Storm Dave has caused plenty more chaos across Blackpool today too.

A local resident also shared a photo of a garden wall on Links Road in St Anne’s which had collapsed.

Trains between Blackpool and Preston were then off for most of the day although lines have now reopened.
